Tin Nguyen

Hi, I'm Tin, a high school student in the Class of 2029 interested in computers, technology, and problem-solving. When I'm not busy with homework or other commitments, I spend some of my free time working on my home server, trying out software, and finding ways to make everyday tasks easier.

I also enjoy helping people understand things, whether that's tutoring someone or figuring out a computer problem together. Outside of technology, I'm involved in student leadership and AFJROTC, and I enjoy taekwondo and drone photography.

What I like about all of this is that there's always something to learn. This website is one of the ways I get to put what I know into practice and share what I've been working on.

Interests

A lot of my interests involve figuring out how things work. I like working with computers, setting up things on my home server, and finding software I can host myself. It's satisfying to get something working and actually use it afterward.

I'm also interested in coding, robotics, and math. I enjoy having a problem to work through, especially when I can try different approaches instead of following one set of instructions.

Outside of that, I enjoy taekwondo and flying my drone. Drone photography lets me connect with nature while doing something I enjoy and explore the world from perspectives I couldn't get from the ground.

I'm also interested in aviation. Computer science is the field I'm currently working toward, but aviation is another path I'd consider if computer science turns out not to be a viable option for me in the future.

I personally believe you have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. From my own experiences, I've learned that I don't grow as much when I always stick to what feels familiar. Trying something new can be uncomfortable, but that's often where I learn the most.

Activities

This year, I'm involved in school leadership, taekwondo, and AFJROTC. School leadership gives me a chance to help plan events, work with other students, and contribute to things happening at school.

This semester in AFJROTC, I serve as the JLAB Commander and First-Year Drill Commander. Both roles have pushed me to get better at communicating, organizing practices, and helping a team work toward a goal.

Taekwondo gives me something different to focus on outside of school. I enjoy learning new techniques and working to improve, even when something takes a while to get right.

Currently Learning

I'm currently learning Java through AP Computer Science A. I'm working on understanding how to write programs myself and figure out why something works, rather than just getting it to run. I'd like to get comfortable enough with it to build projects beyond class assignments.

Certifications and Credentials

Here are some credentials I've earned. You can click the badges to see more on Credly. I intend on obtaining more technical credentials along with my Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate in the future.

Tutoring

I sometimes tutor people as well. If you need help with something, talk to me in person and we can see if it's something I can help with.

For privacy reasons, I keep tutoring arrangements in person rather than through this website.

Drone Photography

Drone photography is a hobby of mine. I enjoy flying and getting photos from a different perspective. It's something I do for fun.

Goals

My goal is to attend MIT or an Ivy League school to study computer science. I'm especially interested in AI and machine learning, and I could see myself going into AI/ML engineering in the future.

For now, I'm working on building my programming skills and getting more experience through projects of my own.
